His Excellency Mr. Ricardo G. Rojas, Ambassador of the Republic of Chile to Japan paid a courtesy visit to JANU on September 27,2021

On September 27, 2021, His Excellency Mr. Ricardo G. Rojas, Ambassador of the Republic of Chile to Japan, together with Mr. Giancarlo Mosciatti, Second Secretary, paid a courtesy visit to the Japan Association of National Universities (JANU).

Following Ambassador Rojas’ inaugural greetings to Dr. Yamaguchi Hiroki, Senior Managing Director, and Mr. Towatari Hayashi, Managing Director, JANU provided an overview of the association and the status of student exchange and inter-university exchange agreements between the two countries.

During the discussion that follows, Ambassador Rojas explained that the Internationalization Commission of the Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities (CRUCH), a Chilean university organization, had expressed its desire to establish cooperative relationships with Japanese universities, especially in the field of science such as artificial intelligence (AI), astronomy, biotechnology. In response, Dr. Yamaguchi welcomed the Ambassador’s visit and the promotion of exchange between Japanese and Chilean universities and suggested that the presence of substantial counterparts is essential for active exchange. Both agreed that it is crucial to deepen mutual understanding by exchanging information using opportunities such as this one as a first step.

As visits to JANU by the Ambassador of the Republic of Chile to Japan, this courtesy call follows His Excellency Mr. Gustavo Ayares’s in 2018. JANU is committed to promoting exchanges between the two countries.
