On September 8, 2026, Ms. Susan Jones, Counsellor (Education and Research), and Ms. Kumiko Tsukamoto, Senior Manager (Education and Research), both of the Australian Embassy Tokyo, visited the Japan Association of National Universities (JANU) and engaged in an exchange of views with Ms. Kayoko Hayashi, Senior Managing Director.

This marks the second visit by a Counsellor (Education and Research) from the Australian Embassy in Japan since 2020. After JANU provided an overview of a collaborative event to be jointly held with Universities Australia (UA) in March 2027, both parties exchanged views on the current status and challenges surrounding topics of mutual interest to both countries, including “promoting international research collaboration,” “the importance of research security,” and “developing student and researcher exchanges.”

JANU will continue to deepen higher education exchanges between Japan and Australia.
